View Full Version : For Sale: 328's 88 SC Hardtop, New Zealand

328FTW05-24-2010, 07:44 AMIt's been fun, had some close calls and good times with this car but its gotta go:( It's an 88 Hardtop with a rebuilt 4agze, it was rebuilt about 20,000km ago, the crank was shot the previous owner used a dipstick that was too long and ran out of oil then drove it home across the city when it did a bearing destroying one rod and the crank beyond repair. The block was sound so it was rebuilt with higher compression bluetop internals. While I was at it I did the cambelt and a manual conversion using an early C-series box with a new clutch and resurfaced flywheel.

I tried to get rid of this a while back but the speedo drive gear went so I went about replacing the box which gave problems so it has been on the lift for a few months but it now has a new low km box out of an ae92, new speedo cable, new oil (engine and box), new oil filter basically a full service. A lot of things have been replaced on this car it is finally at a point where it would be an awesome Daily again and I want it gone:lol: oh well bigger better projects to do.

So the good

Body good apart from a few dings and worn though/chipped paint
No rust apart from a couple really small superficial spots
Good bodygaps ie looks like it has never been crashed
Strong motor that was regularly serviced through my ownership
New box, good syncros, no popout
Good shocks, bushings seem alright from
Nice set of wheels
Polished alloy cam covers
Brand new brakes all round
Very quick:devil:

The bad

Check engine light comes on, pulled code and it says knock sensor I just advanced the static timing still pulls fine
Front tyres are so-so
Front lip cracked like most are now
Fartcan muffler, it's all I had to put on it, it's alright but not a high point
Paint worn through on bonnet and chipping on bumper, still polishes up nice

I've put it up here before I turn to trademe to sell it so if by chance another enthusiast wants it they can come look before I put it up for sale anywhere else.

Will also get a new warrant for it for the new owner :) Thanks for looking. ebouwman05-25-2010, 08:50 AMI hope she finds a good home 328FTW05-25-2010, 06:56 PMI hope she finds a good home

I hope it sells lol. When I broke the gearbox I went all out and replaced a lot of things that needed doing and now it is about ready to just drive away. It was my daily for 4 years that I also took to a couple track days it really hauled to. Also pretty much my first road car, I had a celica before it but that was my parents choice and it broke down/was a turd so I built this up. My mum was not impressed:lol: Took about 2 years to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell to:undecided

I think this will land up on trademe anyway. I'll put a sale sign with my number on the back window anyway and see where things go. Big Thurs05-25-2010, 07:11 PMFree shipping?:D

Dammit. Beat me to it. :p 328FTW05-25-2010, 11:33 PMIt's a pretty car, good luck with the sale.

Going to keep your race car?

Yep the racecars stay just I have too many cars at the moment I've scrapped a few bodies but I still have a few. I'll get rid of this then start on the V6 turbo mkI I have out back waiting, I would of already started it but the guys that smashed up my spare parts and vandalised my dads truck stole the keys so it is stuck until I break/drill the ignition out:undecided LeePeyton05-25-2010, 11:48 PMman, that sucks. 328FTW05-25-2010, 11:59 PMEh it is a minor inconvenience I've got heaps of lock sets about I think, just I have to get the old one out which is a pain. When I bought my racecar it came with no key, 2 minutes and the lock was off:lol: 328FTW06-08-2010, 07:33 AMAdded new pics goes to trademe in a few days, I'm going to be selling my dads truck as well so I'm going to be throwing a few things up for sale. Carjam the plate if you like it is a lower km 88 even if not perfect it's pretty good, a lot of maintenance items have been kept up on this car with me. Archidamus-R06-10-2010, 06:43 PMWish I could. :sorry: byza21306-11-2010, 05:48 AMnice .. are you on mr2.org.nz? chuck it on there to 328FTW06-11-2010, 06:55 AMnice .. are you on mr2.org.nz? chuck it on there to

Actually not a member but I lurk and to be honest I couldn't be bothered lol. I had a couple people contact me on here a while back about the car but that fell through. I might put it on trademe tomorrow I had a couple things I wanted to touch up before selling and I did them today so it has a new ripspeed stereo with usb, sd and about a million other features and the interior is totally back together I fixed all the rattly things and went for a drive then changed the coolant for a good mix of type A. Car is a drive away deal nothing needs doing except that knock sensor and that is no biggie I've driven it for 4 years like that, I looked at the carjam graph of km's it's done and you can see when I bought it because the km's stop while it was off the road rebuilding the motor then the km's only started getting put back on it when my mum was done for DUI and I started driving to school and back......which I stopped doing when someone tried to vandalise the hell out of it and I came along at the right time I used the celica again after that. I really don't need this car anymore and I was sure I'd roll it or total before selling but it's in one piece and still strong so I'll quit while I'm ahead......and drive the V6 instead because that is a sensible settled car that is light on gas:rolleyes::lol:

/rant

I might be buying a trailer on Sunday as well, a tandem transporter that my beater es300 can tow. I buy and transport so many cars I would like my own plus I don't think MR JAS would be against me having a trailer. Sooooo if you have an es300 towbar get in touch:) 328FTW06-24-2010, 07:33 AMPending the buyer produces the goods and is satisfied when we meet next week to trade this car is sold!:):tear: I'll miss it but I'm trading to some mr2 enthusiasts so not too sad might even see it about the place at meets, yay. scottohno08-17-2010, 11:38 PMnot a bad road trip...

the road trip part wouldnt be bad, but drowning in the ocean full of wet blue stuff )and some oil, THANKS BP :) ) would ruin my day

328, where would i find me one of them shiny blue intercoolers? 328FTW08-18-2010, 06:38 AMthe road trip part wouldnt be bad, but drowning in the ocean full of wet blue stuff )and some oil, THANKS BP :) ) would ruin my day

Painted it to match the body with that stuff. It is really awesome I used it on my old 3sge and it came up a stunning electric blue, on the grey base of the old intercooler cover however it comes up a darker deep blue which matches the blue metallic mkI nicely.

I still kinda miss my mkI it was so fun and it was cheap fun so far the turbo has been a garage queen and I've put shiny new pistons and parts on it but I've only done about 50km in it:undecided It'll haul when I put the motor back in this week though:D Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc.
