View Full Version : problems with my tail lights

CasperDyess03-28-2010, 05:29 PMmy mr2 is having problems with the tail lights... the problem being that they wont work! i checked the bulbs and they are fine the blinkers wont work either... any idea on why this might happen? i do have running lights but thats it... mr2_guy03-28-2010, 06:25 PMI had this same problem, while I drove over a pothole, anyways have your check your fuse? located at the kick panel which is a pain in the ass to get to, my fuse are ok, I had short somewhere tho. CasperDyess03-28-2010, 07:27 PMlol i wouldnt know where to start looking... you mean the fuse box to the left of the pedals? nitrofreak0603-28-2010, 09:36 PMYes that one. CasperDyess03-28-2010, 10:04 PMYes that one.

would the fact that i dont have a hazard lights button hooked up be the problem? ebouwman03-28-2010, 11:43 PMwould the fact that i dont have a hazard lights button hooked up be the problem?

I think so yes, just deciphering a wiring diagram...

EDIT: Here's the diagram. (http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/electrical/volume1/electrical_wiring_diagrams.htm)

It's kinda hard to tell because electrical diagrams aren't always my thing, but if both your hazards, and your turn signals don't work, but your horn still does work, then it shouldn't be a fuse, it should be just that that switch isn't plugged in CasperDyess04-05-2010, 08:17 AMi checked the fuse and the ones that are there seem fine and some seem to be missing but none that work with the lights... some of my tail light bulbs look blown or burnt out, i was told if one bulb doesnt work they all may not work, any truth to this on the mr2? MRH04-05-2010, 12:54 PMi was told if one bulb doesnt work they all may not work, any truth to this on the mr2?

not true, some things can be like that.

there are also relays that are in your kick panel that aid your tail light system.

you need a volt meter and a 9v or so battery to test your relays.

you need to check the following:

the relay on the top right is your turn signal flasher relay.

the relay in the middle is the tail (light control).

the fuse second up from the bottom right is the tail light fuse. apparently that also affects the cluster lighting.

and lastly there is a cluster fuse that is on the top row second one in.

all those should be inspected and if those are all good, and your rheostat is plugged in, and you have your hazard switch plugged in and it is still not working, your cluster bulbs all blew out, or you need a new wiring harness.

-H CasperDyess04-09-2010, 11:15 PMok so i got all the lights to turn on. however when i hit the brake nothing happens... even the 3rd brake light wont come on... i got all new bulbs, new fuses, im buying a hazard swich off a friend soon, maybe it will work once thats hooked up.... MR2noobiii01-28-2011, 02:57 PMi am having the same problem but it just my hazers light and my signal is not working the relay seem fine cant seem to find out or were to start..... MR2noobiii01-28-2011, 08:29 PMi just re check the relay and they all seen good all bulb are all good every thing is connect i have no clue whats going on??????????? dubmr201-28-2011, 08:59 PMmaybe check the switch attached to the brake pedal assembly MR2noobiii01-28-2011, 09:00 PM???? what switch are you talking about? dubmr201-28-2011, 09:25 PMwait im thinking of the clutch pedal has a switch to turn off the CC.

The brakes must either have a switch on the pedal assembly or a pressure sensor somewhere on the brake line to turn on the brake lights, im not sure which the mr2 has.

Ill check my pedals later tonight K0ukiM0n5teR01-29-2011, 04:16 AMfaulty tail light harness MR2noobiii01-30-2011, 01:03 AMi was thinking the same thing with the tail light any other suggestion? Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
