View Full Version : Detailing your MR2 High Temp Paint for Strut Tower Brace

tadamany02-28-2010, 05:10 PMGot a little rust and discoloration on my strut tower brace, so I'm in the process of grinding it off and sanding the entire piece to a nice smooth finish.

My question: Should I use high temp paint on it and if so should I spray a few layers with wet sanding between each layer? What's the best paint to use on the strut tower brace?

Thank you. tadamany03-01-2010, 01:11 PMAnyone? mr303-01-2010, 01:12 PMRegular paint should be fine. It's not resting on the header so you should be ok with normal regular stuff. You can go with Hi temp if you want to. Either should work fine. Sh0ty03-01-2010, 01:13 PMStandard paint should be fine. TomsMR203-04-2010, 06:20 AMavoid high temp paint whenever you can.. you dont need it in an engine bay (the engine bay itself is painted in normal paint afterall).

never sand between coats of paint, no matter what you're painting, or how! you sand before and after primer, and then you do all your color coats in one go.

use metal etch primer before you paint. it comes in cans and its cheap; its necessary. if you're using cans, avoid lacquers. acrylic enamels are a bit better. dont use clear. tadamany03-04-2010, 04:49 PMChange of plans. I've priced out what it would take to get it powder coated and decided to go route. $10 for sandblasting and $35 for the powder coat. I've never had anything powder coated before, but that didn't seem too expensive. Could have spent less if I just sprayed it myself, so I hope it looks nice. I'll get it back in a couple days and bolted on minutes later. ShackC03-19-2010, 04:07 PMsummit has a powder coating kit, decent price, im going to pick it up for a few different thing, they aslo have multiple color, ive been told you want a sort of oven large enough to fit whatever, i think you supposed to bake powder coat on, not completely sure but look into it.
