View Full Version : tire setups for 1/4

devind5602-16-2010, 03:29 PMlooking to compare and see some ther setupd MDoe802-18-2010, 02:42 PMWish I had real life experience help on the subject. However, for my drag setup, I'm gonig to get a pair of 15" rims for the back with something like a 245/55/15 drag radial or something nice and tall like that devind5602-18-2010, 04:18 PMthats what im looking for.... ive only run like on the show side big rims with the sitckest tires i can get on them..... now i wanna get serious and need help with a rear setup.... i wanna run a 15" weld prostar....but need help on the width offset and tire sizing... i was going to go with a mickey et street so that it is still streetable MDoe802-18-2010, 05:22 PMmt et street radials are going to be your best bet for stickiness but still streetness. 245 width will get you all of the traction you need, just be sure to runa 14" or 15" wheel so you can get a tall sidewall for some flex. You won't need anything more than that unless you're aiming for 8's. I've seen low 9's out of an rx7 with 235's out back. Put an engine above the wheels and add a little width, you've got a lot of traction!

I just don't know what will fit on the mr2 as i'm still new to this platform. I've had a lot of experience with tires on other cars thuogh! z Ice Dragon z02-18-2010, 06:12 PMI'll tell you one thing unless you've juiced out your motor, you're not gunna be running anything less than 12's, maybe 11's.

I agree with MDoe on the 15's though. 245 might be a bit much though. 235 is pretty good. Somewhere between a 55 or a 65 on the side wall will work just great. Just make sure you that whatever rims you decide on, make sure that they are light! A good rim choice could be the difference in anywhere from 20-60 lbs extra weight.

If you want I'll do some tests tonight and provide a conclusion on my findings.

MR2 OC Drag Times (http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/mr2records/drag.htm) MDoe802-18-2010, 06:41 PMreading devins other posts, he's got plenty of oomph. I'd say a 10 second setup is what he has, depending on how it comes out of the hole. Texas_Ace02-18-2010, 08:22 PMI plan to use stock 15" wheels for my setup, just have not decided on tires for them yet.

Budget is the problem for me, if i had the money i would get MT ET streets 235's (all they have that will fit our cars in a 15" wheel) but i don't have $200+ a tire to spend.

So i will most likly end up using whatever used tires i can find somebody selling. z Ice Dragon z02-18-2010, 08:26 PMGot ya, I haven't read anything on what he has. I know that I have some 17 245's on mine, and I have great grip for powering out of corners, but my take off is pretty rough. You can feel the back end getting thrown forward hard. My experience. Depends on the tire compund and power levels.

I know that i run 255/40/17 NT01 tires on ym car daily and even at just 330rwhp i had big traction issues in 1st gear and somtimes 2nd.

I have also seen 275/40/17 MT ET streets hook in 2nd gear on a 700hp car. Tire compund plays a big role. devind5602-18-2010, 11:47 PMThe motors not broken in yet but the one I built before went 10.30 with bad traction and I went a little over board on mine. I use to have a supra and sc. So that's y I'm having a hard time with tires. But I've been building 3s for awhile. Finally crossed over. But think it's going up for sale devind5602-18-2010, 11:49 PMU wanna know the setup MDoe802-19-2010, 03:00 AMI had a 94 single turbo supra before as well. Traction wasn't bad at all. Could fit some big fat meats on the back of that thing! devind5602-19-2010, 11:23 AMyeah so its a big change going from a car where u can make 700 800hp and stick a big fat 18 with like a 325 to a car where u r very limited MDoe802-25-2010, 05:51 PMYouTube - MR2 E85 idle after warm up/stock ECU

this guy ran high 10's with these tires. Look like Nitto drags on 15" rims. He's mr2man on the board Texas_Ace02-25-2010, 06:14 PMThose look bigger then 15", looks more like 16" and also looks like MT ET streets tread pattern but can't see any info on the tires. Somone could send him a PM and ask.

I know noshoes is running MT ET Streets on stock 15" wheels on his 500rwhp car and says he gets great traction. MDoe802-25-2010, 06:31 PMyeah the mt dr's are definitely the best. I just looked at the outside of the tire tread and it looked similar to the tires I had on my fd, which were nitto dr's. Texas_Ace02-25-2010, 06:33 PMyeah the mt dr's are definitely the best. It is possible they are nittos, the ET streets look the same though so could be either.

Only proboem i have with the ET streets are a: price things are not cheap and B: they like to break stuff. MDoe802-25-2010, 06:35 PMyeah for sure. And they last about 4 days before you need to replace them. My plan was to get an extra pair of matching rims for the back, only in 15". Then toss a nice big set of mt et street radials on them. Then whenever I know I'm going to need the hook, swap out the wheels. That way I can keep my harder compound tires out back for cruising around and i won't look like a fool when i put the dr's on either :) Texas_Ace02-25-2010, 06:47 PMyeah for sure. Actually the ET streets last quite a while if you don't doa burn out once a day. I know guys that have run a set for 5 years and still managed to cut a 1.5 60ft on them.

The theroy why they last so long is that they hook and don't spin thus causing them to last longer. Just don't drive them in the rain. MDoe802-26-2010, 03:06 AMthat's definitely a long time! Very true though, it's all in how you treat them. Take them to the track a few times and the life gets cut in half

**edit** mt et street radials just came out a couple years ago. Are you referring to literally et street bias ply tires? I'm talking about the drag radials Texas_Ace02-26-2010, 11:54 AMTalking about these: Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels (http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/strip.php?item=ETStreetRadial)

Been out for years and years. Stickest Tries for the street out last i checked. MDoe802-26-2010, 01:51 PMmy mistake, i was thinking of the, "II's" which came out not too long ago.

Those have also been out for a long time, at least a year. Now they may have released a new size of it but the tire itself has been out for some time. MDoe802-26-2010, 01:54 PMyeah that's what i was saying, within the last couple years is recent to me Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc.
