SW21T02-09-2010, 08:40 PMOk so I'm trying to wire up my Apexi SAFC, but I want to make sure this is done correct. So my question is what pin is the RPM Signal, and if are my other wires are correct?

Thanks in advance

-YELLOW killermillermr202-09-2010, 09:08 PMThis is how I have mine
SAFC wiring (http://carpron.com/multisite/v/Upload/turbo5s/SAFC+wiring.bmp.html?g2_navId=xf7c85428)

Apexi Installation Instruction Manual: S-AFC 2 (http://www.scribd.com/doc/19580150/Apexi-Installation-Instruction-Manual-SAFC-2-)
Apexi Installtion Instruction Manual: S-AFC 2 / SUPER AIR FLOW CONVERTER? WIRING DIAGRAM (http://www.scribd.com/doc/19580873/Apexi-Installtion-Instruction-Manual-SAFC-2-SUPER-AIR-FLOW-CONVERTER-WIRING-DIAGRAM)

Sorry I havent had a chance to reply to your PM. hope this helps. If you have any more questions on the setup let me know. SW21T02-09-2010, 09:20 PMWhat starting point settings can I use so the car can be drivable for dyno? SW21T02-09-2010, 09:33 PMSo this is the correct one (thanks for the help)

http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/tevan8806/Other%20items/SAFCWiringdia5sfe-1.jpg killermillermr202-09-2010, 09:47 PMDo you have a wideband yet? I would recommend having one of those, and dont use the SAFC to do anything other than add fuel.

I just took my car onto a vacant open road and drove back and forth figuring out what to set everything at. There is a lean spot just getting into boost at about half throttle. To battle that I set the low throttle to whatever the SAFC is reading when at 4psi of boost. The SAFC will see 4psi as about 70-80% throttle. Then made small adjustments till the air/fuel ratio was acceptable.

I have my throttle adjustment points set at 800, 1800, 2000, 2400, 2800, 3000, 3200, 3600, 3800, 4200, 4800, 5200.
you might need to set them differently as each motor will need diferent settings. Look for the lean spot around 2800-3500rpm. killermillermr202-09-2010, 09:53 PMSo this is the correct one (thanks for the help)

Yes except the yellow and white are switched. It sounds like that is how it is when you read the manual, but every other place I found a wiring diagram had the yellow connected to the MAP sensor, and the white is sending the corrected voltage to the ECU. The link above from carpron.com is exactly how I wired mine in and it works fine.

Oh,and you will have to shuffle through the RPM settings to pick the right read out. SW21T02-09-2010, 10:16 PMok fixing that right now SW21T02-10-2010, 08:43 PMI got it installed and everything is working but the SAFC is reading
AFL 16.3%
THR 78.1% Why is the throttle so high? Shouldn't it be at zero
REV 0 RPM
Core +0.0 killermillermr202-10-2010, 08:57 PMIf you bought it used the settings from the PO would still be stored. Dont drive it till you set it up for your car~!! At the bottom of the main menu it will say initialize. This will reset everything back to zero and you can then go through and select which type of sensors you have. READ the manual to do the setup correctly. SW21T02-10-2010, 09:00 PMWe did that......Twice! and it went from 64.4% thr to 78.6%. and the car doesn't start. Then the afl was at 0 and when initalize it went to 16.3% SW21T02-10-2010, 09:00 PMOh and the car won't even start, turns over but nothing. Before we installed it, it did start killermillermr202-10-2010, 09:10 PMWhat is afl? You should be reading pressure. at idle you will read about 7% throttle because the MAP (which you are now reading as throttle position on SAFC) is sending some voltage to the ecu. SW21T02-10-2010, 09:13 PMThe car can't even turn on though killermillermr202-10-2010, 09:37 PMI went out and checked my settings. this is what worked for me, dont blame me if you blow your **** up:)

At the main menu go to ECT..., Sensor Type..., Pressure..., In and Out I am not sure about. I put them both at one.

Then go to car select..., Cyl (4) Thr (arrow pointing up and right)

then there is a sensor check screen that tells you what everything is reading once you get the car to start. SW21T02-10-2010, 09:42 PMOk I'll try that right now, hey pm me all your settings (I'm not blaming you if it blows ) Just need a starting point really. SW21T02-10-2010, 09:53 PMwhat my sensor check reads
sensor chk
in-1: 2.910v
in-2:0.060v
thrt:2.510v
with car off killermillermr202-10-2010, 10:03 PMOk I'll try that right now, hey pm me all your settings (I'm not blaming you if it blows ) Just need a starting point really.

I already gave you all the settings you really need. Any corrections I have made on mine will be totaly different from yours. SW21T02-10-2010, 10:06 PMoh ok, whats the PR-2??

PR is Pressure but whats the 2? killermillermr202-10-2010, 10:09 PMIs this a SAFC 1 or 2?
I dont think I have seen that. SW21T02-10-2010, 10:11 PMsafc 1 SW21T02-10-2010, 10:11 PMPage 28

http://www.apexi-usa.com/content/pdf6135.pdf killermillermr202-10-2010, 10:16 PMOkay, I have a safc 2. I think that might be where we are confusing each other. Your displays might read diferently than mine. I have never used a safc1. killermillermr202-10-2010, 10:20 PMPage 28

I am having a problem with my computer. For some reason when I try and open pdf stuff my internet locks up. I cant read that. SW21T02-10-2010, 10:21 PMDoesn't display it on the thing, it's on the manual and want to know what it is? And why the car isn't turning on. killermillermr202-10-2010, 10:26 PMMaybe I was smoking crack when I did mine and the MAP wires are switched around. I dunno, double check your wiring. Maybe someone that reads your link can help you figure out what "it" is. SW21T02-10-2010, 10:28 PMthink it can be the 2 wires you told me to switch around? killermillermr202-10-2010, 10:39 PMI am not sure, but it is a posability. All the research I did was on the second gen, but most of it said they are wired the same. Do some searching and see what others have written up. I might be mistaken, but I am pritty sure that is how I wired mine.

It is a good chance there is something wrong with one of the 4 wires you modified going to the ecu. double check your wiring to make sure all connections are good. SW21T02-10-2010, 10:44 PMok I will, tomorrow. It's fu**ing cold

Whats the diff. between the IDL throttle position sensor and the PSW Throttle position sensor? killermillermr202-10-2010, 11:21 PMThats a good question. SW21T02-11-2010, 12:02 AMLMAO, I'll search around see if I can find it, but if you do let me know. SW21T02-11-2010, 12:16 AMOn the 5sfe which is the knock sensor wire?? Is there a pont to hooking it up to the SAFC killermillermr202-11-2010, 12:33 AMIf you have a 91-92 5sfe you dont have a knock sensor. the only came on 93^. And yes it would be a good idea to hook that up if you had it. SW21T02-11-2010, 01:07 AMdamn killermillermr202-11-2010, 02:03 AMi know how you feel SW21T02-11-2010, 06:32 PMYeah hopefully I can get this all straightened out by today SW21T02-11-2010, 07:58 PMI hooked up the ecu back to stock and it still didn't turn on. So we check for spark and I got, and the results of what we did is that the car is flooded. killermillermr202-11-2010, 09:01 PMYou might pull out the spark plugs and let the fuel evap out. then put a few drops of oil in each cylinder and turn it over by hand. (disconnect the distributor wire first) That will help you not to scar up the cylinder walls. It just smokes a little bit on startup. SW21T02-11-2010, 09:32 PMyeah we did that already, now we are playing the waiting game until tomorrow. SW21T02-12-2010, 09:33 PMSound better?
Sound better?
YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.

YouTube- Broadcast Yourself. SW21T02-12-2010, 09:36 PMEverything was perfect, until I came along.....:(

I accidentally unplugged the safc and now it's back to running like sh** fvillota02-12-2010, 09:44 PMyea sounds wayyy better! fvillota02-12-2010, 09:44 PMdid you end up hooking it up like killer said? killermillermr202-12-2010, 09:48 PMWell what the hell did you do that for:clumsy: ^ and yeah please confirm the wiring SW21T02-12-2010, 09:50 PMAlmost...I just hooked up the yellow wire close to the ECU and the White one to the TPS other then that it was the same. Am still not sure on the throttle signal wire thou. I moves but not with the throttle its kinda random. SW21T02-12-2010, 09:52 PMI will draw up a diagram for the Apexi SAFC later for anyone that ever need it. Ill post it later SW21T02-21-2010, 03:36 PMCar is running again, normal. My settings are:

Lo-Thrtle Settings 70%
1k rpm= -24
2k rpm= -22
3k rpm= -20
4k rpm= -20
5k rpm= -20
6k rpm= -20

Hi-Thrtl Settings 80%
1k rpm= -15
2k rpm= -15
3k rpm= -15
Rest I left alone

With that I managed to get the car to idle perfect, but it still dies at stops. Backfires like crazy, so I know it's still running rich.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?? Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
