View Full Version : custom vented hood

jasenklems01-26-2010, 12:50 AMToday I started on my project car. Progress is going to be slow as my girlfriend and I have just bought a house.....

Well for starters today I started to design my vented hood, I took a spare hood and marked out my design in grease pencil and decided what I wanted to remove from the hood. Then I cut it out and will have to cut the support frame tomorrow and then modify that to put back so I wont lose too much in the way of support and I will still be able to up the frunk. I will be modifying the way the radiator sits and the front fire wall as well.... Once I have all of the metal cut and back in place I will start on the fiberglass work for this. My hood is just going to be a mold for one in carbon fiber so I need to make this just about a close as I can, Im not a very good fabricator so we will see how this works out. I am going to take some pics and post them here soon so I would like to know what you all think of my Idea. z Ice Dragon z01-26-2010, 02:04 AMCan't tell ya what I think until I see what you're doin. I'm not really one to read something and get a good mental image.

But I will say congrats on the house, and good luck on the project! Post pics soon! jasenklems01-26-2010, 07:05 PMthanks and as soon as I can post some pics I will bquick22201-26-2010, 07:25 PMsounds pretty sweet. / David01-26-2010, 07:45 PMIf you don't mind me asking, what's going to be the power plant? jasenklems01-26-2010, 10:42 PM3sgte with a trunk mounted intercooler (maybe a custom power cooler water to air dont know just yet.) custom dual fan engine cover and a fan on the intercooler. David01-27-2010, 07:48 AMVery nice. I approve. 328FTW01-27-2010, 07:57 AMIf you put that in it you better beat on it:devil: I expect to see mk1.5 acting like the little beasts they are;) jasenklems01-27-2010, 04:39 PMhttp://i5

and here is what I am doing with the trunk lid for the trunk mounted intercooler bquick22201-27-2010, 06:45 PMLooking good. That thing will be crazy when your done! jasenklems01-27-2010, 07:08 PMthanks for the support I am planing on making the hood and the trunk and the engine lid in carbon fiber. I found the c-pillar trim in cf for 200 and I have yet to get my snorkels for both sides thinking about making them cf to. jasenklems01-27-2010, 07:26 PMI still have a lot of fiberglass work to do at this point in the game and I dont really know how to finish this off just yet as I also have some metal work to do as well ( the framing on the underside)
http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss56/jasenklems/0127123039.jpg
for the trunk lid I dont have a lot to do really I have to clean off the paint and do some welding and a little more sheet metal work for the helper spring mounting point then this one will end up at the body shop to be finished off with some body filler and be primed
http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss56/jasenklems/0127150224.jpg z Ice Dragon z01-29-2010, 06:15 PMLookin good! jasenklems02-17-2010, 08:42 PMHave posted for a while been busy with the new house. Got the paint off of the trunk lid and hood it was a pita 3 layers of paint and primer on it going to sand blast the vents soon but dont know when I will have the time. Other than that it is not moving along to fast money is tight right now hoping it get a little easier soon. Thanks for the support. jasenklems03-16-2010, 12:02 AMI finally got to sandblast the trunk lid and the grates that I cut out of the engine lid hopefully they will get welded on this week so that I can get that one piece finished so that I can start on the next one..... It is much more difficult to fab things than I thought but it will be worth it in the end to be able to say Yea I made that mod Myself.... Russell the Love Muscle03-16-2010, 12:21 AMlooks good so far!

Are you going to make new mounts for the radiator to tip it forward more and let the air escape through the hood? jasenklems03-16-2010, 09:31 PMYea that is the Idea I am also modifying the trunk lid for a trunk mounted intercooler with a fan on it and I will be making a double fan plate for the engine lid.... Bennie06-01-2010, 05:58 PMLets see some pics man! I love the vented hood idea... I want to make a custom Ford GT style hood, but i'm afraid i don't have the stones to cut up my hood! lol jasenklems07-25-2010, 09:18 PMkinda at a stand still have been working on my house and I found out I got little girl on the way due in december so I dont know when I will have it all up and going Smokestoomuch08-28-2010, 03:35 PMI got the same idea to heat extract my MK1 frunk. If you want to gander a beautiful mod, you should see the car some Canadian hoser posted on the Ausie MR2 site. He calls them F50 ducts after the F50 Farrari. Wow, it really looks sharp. Just Google F50 and Mr2 and it will come right up. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
