MR.twooooo03-19-2006, 04:17 PMwhat will putting a universal magnaflow muffler do to the perfomance?
I know You have to have some backpressure for lowend torque but what will happen if i do this N8s93turbo03-19-2006, 04:36 PMthe bpipe is the biggest restriction. MR.twooooo03-19-2006, 04:40 PMbut will just changing the muffler to something better and leaving the rest alone do anyting bad N8s93turbo03-19-2006, 04:43 PMi dont think it will do anything bad, but not gonna do much good either. MR.twooooo03-19-2006, 04:55 PMso i would need to change the b pipe? that's the pipe that runs off the header and under the oil pan right N8s93turbo03-19-2006, 04:57 PMdownpipe to mufflers MR.twooooo03-19-2006, 04:59 PMwhat makes it so restictive? VTsuckah13103-19-2006, 05:04 PMwell the magnaflow will be substantially lighter than the stock muffler. What makes the b-pipe restrictive is that it fluctuates in diameter. MR.twooooo03-19-2006, 05:06 PMwhat would you do to the muffler MR-Fixer03-19-2006, 06:22 PM4age engines are perverse little critters about exhaust size. Opening up the exhaust tends to make better torque at lower RPM's. Whereas, just the right amount of restriction, provides the super fast winding at 5500 to 8000 RPM. This is just the opposite of the exhaust rules that apply to V-8 hot rodding. This is me talking off the top of my head. I haven't done dyno testing, and flow measuring bench tests, etc. So its just my opinion. VTsuckah13103-19-2006, 06:41 PMWell seeing that you have an NA and not a SC mkI, buying a new exhaust system will not yield you a lot of power. The same holds true for the mkII NA. You can buy a trd header for your mkI, it will help out quite a bit, but will get rid of your cat so you will not be able to pass emmissions. If you are looking for more engine performance for your NA, you will be dissappointed. There is not much out there that will substantially increase your HP and torque without spending quite a bit of money. Exhaust systems for 4 cycl. nat. aspired engines are more show than go.
