View Full Version : My MR2, 14 months in the making :)

honda_bar11-06-2009, 12:02 AMWell it's been a long journey but here is my baby my 2. Not knowing it at the time, a friend was also seeking this 5spd 1993 hardtop NA with the only option being ABS. When I talked to the seller for the second time, he told me that there was 5 people coming to look at it in the next few days and so I told him, let me come RIGHT NOW. So I skipped out of class to go check it out and it did :) It came with mud flaps and 94 tails too.

Paint wasn't good at all, that was the biggest problem, also, the bumper was modded with nasty fog lights. The positioning of the fog lights did grow on my a bit though. I took the liberty of washing and waxing it...looked a bit better.

1st mod which was done almost immediately, was the sound system. The cd player I was told (only the front speakers worked, stock rears) , would only worked when it felt like it, plus it was UGLY! I threw some 6x9s in the back and found out later that I had some nice 2 way alpines in the doors

Since I was doing the interior, I figured that LED for the cluster would update it a bit and try and match my new CD player. They didn't match buy they do compliment each other. Thanks goes to BEN whom I got the idea from. I recommend it to everyone and it's really really easy ;)

Next up was a tint meet that we had here in socal, 6 or 7 of us all got our windows done. 2 of which got a ticket in the following week  I guess I shouldn't laugh as I got mine last night :( I added a pic of your fellow MR2 owners at the meet....

Then disaster struck... a tool nails my baby while I'm driving down the street minding my own business. I don't want to post pics of that cause it hurts :tear: the deadbeat kid, had no insurance and no money SO...3000.00 bucks later, she is back on the road good as new. This gave me the opportunity to do a few things while she was down, pick up a turbo engine lid, JdM front end, an unbent rear trunk (happened to be black, now my car is half black at this point ) and have some patience!

She looks terrible now being several different colors but that's ok, I still need to mod! Up next was 91 turbo brakes and front trd strut bar. This pic is from a socal meet that we had where people could come and fix, mod and do whatever to your 2. It was a great day with a bunch of cool people. I also removed the 94 tails and put on the 91s that day.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn309/honda_bar/DSC01201.jpg

Here is the front of my car post accident, also check out that GAP!

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn309/honda_bar/DSC01167.jpg

Needless to say, I needed to fix that gap, so I bought some ST springs. I didn't like em, so I bought some TRD which I should of in the first place. The car sat a lot better with the trds...

The next few things I decided I had to do were the seats. They were in pretty good shape, but I lusted after 94s+. I did one better though, Mark_Dorman got his hands on some 98 G-limited seats and passed them onto me for my seats and a little bit of cash. Thanks MARK! I also got hooked up through another board member for a detachable steering wheel. It took me a while to track down this specific wheel which came with a rare horn button which I haven't ever seen. I tom's was the appropriate choice. I would have preferred it stock but my neighborhood is borderline sketchy :ugh: Here is the interior from a pic I took today. Yes I know, I need to vacuum! Oh yeah, I got a trd short throw that was modded by Deuce girl, so that I could fit the tall style shifter instead of the ugly greddy that was destroying the look of the car...

The next step is the best part. PAINT! It took me a while to find out the best red. I decided to go with 'passion red' by Volvo. I think that it turned out well. I also got the holes for the front plate patched and the toyota symbol holes on the trunk welded.

Looks good eh? :) we're still not done here folks. I gave the guy who painted my car 9-12 days to get it done. I went to go pick it up and found out it was only 95% done. He had ran out of paint and I had ran out of patience. He still hadn't paint the rear add ons, spoiler and the G-limited/toyota badges. I ditched my other car to help pay for the paint and took my car back anyways. In the mean time, I decided to pick up a Legalis R exhaust and put it on :) FYI, wingless does grow on you, the trunk opens SO EASILY and it's a nice view out your rear window! :D

Alas, I get my wing back, put it on. I took several hours to wash, clay and wax it today for this post. A big thanks to everyone that has helped me oGspdracer, masagsxr, davis, ren and Mark_Dorman especially.

+1 ARMIN11-10-2009, 05:47 PMI'm interested in modifying my TRD shifter to fit the tall knob. How do I go about this? datguydeni11-10-2009, 07:27 PMI'm interested in modifying my TRD shifter to fit the tall knob. How do I go about this?

his car is a 93 it came with a short shifter which allowed the trd shifter to fit easily. RePete11-10-2009, 07:52 PMLove reading/seeing these stories. Good work, you have a right to be proud! ARMIN11-10-2009, 07:54 PMOh yeah, I got a trd short throw that was modded by Deuce girl, so that I could fit the tall style shifter instead of the ugly greddy that was destroying the look of the car... o6spdracer11-11-2009, 03:26 AMRen, aka Deucegirl, modified the shift knob and shifter to fit it down lower than normal. I can't remember exactly what she did, but I'm sure Colin, Dorman, or Ren will chime in when they read the thread. ARMIN11-11-2009, 10:53 AMAnd now the shift knob doesn't move at all i.e. screwed all the way in? Reason I asked is that I kind of forced the knob to become tight by continuing to rotate it. Wasn't the smartest idea as the leather on the knob is a little deformed now but at least there's no play on it unless I use extra force. o6spdracer11-11-2009, 12:28 PMBrute strength doesn't work 99% of the time with cars! ARMIN11-11-2009, 01:14 PMhaha very true. At least it worked in the end. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
