View Full Version : Toyota GR Engines

canadam03-14-2006, 11:00 PMI'm not seeing any talk of using one of these engines, is it purely related to cost ?

It seems to me that there should be a supply of 1GR engines available, word is they bolt up to MR2 transaxles. With a stock rating of 245 hp, the 1GR seems like a simple choice over a TRD supercharged 1MZ with a similar, but naturally aspirated, power rating, and its lighter than a TRD supercharged 5VZ which only puts out 265ish hp.

I can't see one of these GR engines costing a whole lot more than one of the aforementioned V6's + a TRD SC to bolt to it.

Discuss.

Custom turbo setups need not apply !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DaveMush03-14-2006, 11:55 PMI looked into it... The only places I found on Car-part.com, were selling them fer 2600 for the longblock only...
plus the cost of the harness and ECU

Thats for the 2gr Node03-15-2006, 12:20 AMYea, its price. When a full 5VZ can be had for
I would bet the engine is just as capable as the VZ series motors but Im just not willing to bet two thousand dollars. canadam03-15-2006, 12:36 AMI said:

because I don't ever for myself personally doing a custom forced induction setup - I'm sort of a purist :undecided

There is also the issue of internal stregth. We dont know what these motors are capable of yet. The 5VZ has now been proven to over 900hp with pistons and rods and a bit over 500 with stock internals. Weasy2k03-15-2006, 11:43 AMNot many people think the way you do Adam :P

The supercharger setup for the 1gr is rated at 300'ish whp when done right at stock boost...which yes...is awsome :)

1GR has never left my mind as an option but the price to me is not worth it right now. canadam03-15-2006, 04:08 PMWhich SC setup ????? :O Mr2crazybyong03-15-2006, 05:09 PMi heard about the gr before but forgot where did it come from? what car does it come with? Weasy2k03-15-2006, 06:16 PMTRD

The 1gr came in 2004+ 4Runner and the 2005+ Tacomas canadam03-15-2006, 08:27 PMAny Toyota support to this ? :D :D

TRD Weasy2k03-16-2006, 03:25 AMwhhops i was thinking about the 2uz :P

It is coming out tho lowboost03-28-2006, 10:41 AMHey guys, I'm currently doing the 1uz into my MKII.... but I really want to build a 2gr V6 into another one of my MR2s. I want it to be stock like, maybe just headers intake and exhaust. I want to retain A/C and VVTI however lose the DBW, unless I get the 2gr pedal and all needed parts.

I might create a kit, that would make it a nearly drop in setup with a modified wiring harness and headers that would bolt to stock exhaust. Since I live close to Node and I will be buying a house hopefully this fall I will have a nice work shop and good power tools to tinker with. I really think a 3.5 liter 280hp motor thats stock and emissions friendly would really take the MR2 community by storm! I estimate low 13's in the 1/4th mile with just stock motor, and if some people wanted to retain an automatic MR2 then they could as well!

Node, if I provide the 2gr as a test motor and get my car ready would you be willing to start up another setup? I dont want you to do it for me, but our resources together would work out great I think!

Jeffrey lateralG's03-28-2006, 01:04 PMSounds like a great idea. I've got a '93 T with an '01 Avalon VVTi that Brad installed. I love it, but wish I hadn't started it until the 280hp engine came out. I'm looking for another chassis right now. How soon do you think until you get this project off the ground? Weasy2k03-28-2006, 01:19 PMlot sof money for these engines still....i would say later this year.
But i ges you could argue that your spending 3g's on the engine...and nothing else to make the 280hp vs turbo/sc systesm etc that would bring a low 700 dollar engine tto costing close to 4 grand would get you.

i am just wondering about the size of the 2gr...that thing is giant canadam03-28-2006, 01:48 PMThat's how I look at it. You're looking at 280 stock, reliable HP too.

Weasy2k03-28-2006, 02:33 PMim still in market for 1gr :) Node03-28-2006, 03:08 PMCanadam, I can see why you said "turbos need not apply". I was just trying to make the point that the GR's are untested as far as mods go. Im not against them, im just trying to explain why not many people have been talking them up.

That much power and torque is quite appealing especially NA. You would have the option to go with the 2GR heads in the next few years too. Weasy2k03-28-2006, 08:44 PMyou mean the FSE heads? on the FE 2gr? Node03-28-2006, 09:15 PMNo, I mean the 2GR-FE heads on the 1GR-FE Should make for a nice combo with lots of NA power. Weasy2k03-28-2006, 10:22 PMwould be very interesting to see...

i would prefer a 2gr itself for a n/a app....1gr for turbo lowboost03-30-2006, 03:27 PM1GR and 2GR both in japan... I saw blitz had a prototype SC on one! at the tokyo autosalon! canadam03-30-2006, 03:39 PM:omg:

what type? sunbug06-09-2006, 05:34 AMSorry for asking such a stupid question.. What the hell is "SC"? ;) 3VZ-FE06-09-2006, 07:28 AMSuperCharger Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
