depending on the transmission you are using you can buy any 5s of 3sgte lightened flywheel
if you are using the mr2 NA (or standard beams tranny) you can buy any 5sfe (mr2 NA) lightened flywheel
if you are using the turbo lsd transmission you can use any 3sgte lightened flywheel...

You need the 5sfe disc, it has the correct spline size for your gearbox assuming our using the s54, so I am using:
3SGTE Turbo Lightweight flywheel
3SGTE Turbo Pressure Plate
OEM Toyota Beams Clutch disc(or any other 5sfe disc stock or aftermarket)
&
option 1:
Pressure plate, flywheel from 3sgte
disc and throw our bearing from 5sfe
option 2: would be to call a clutch manufacture and have them sell you a 3sgte pressure plate, 3sgte flywheel, and custom make a clutch plate and what your going to want to ask for is for them to take a 3sgte disc and mate it to 5sfe splines so you get the larger surface area of the 3sgte disc with 5sfe compatibility. you can use both 3sgte and 5sfe flywheel (stock or aftermarket) without any problem, I used both during the last 3 years
same for clutch, it only depends on the transmission and flywheel you are using
example if you use a 5sfe flywheel you need to use a 5sfe clutch kit
if you use a 3sgte flywheel you can use a 3sgte clutch kit OR 5sfe clutch disc with a 3sgte pressure plate and 3sgte flywheel...
flywheel and clutch can be mixed but clutch disc need to be the same as the transmission you are using (input shaft is not the same depending on the transmission)

yes if you keep your clutch make sure your transmission is a s54 (all year non-turbo mr2 or beams tranny) and then buy a 5sfe flywheel psuPbikeRider8808-16-2009, 02:35 PMok, cool. If you have the VIN plate of the car the BEAMS engine came from then it will say it on there. Mine was ST202-blablabla Super White bla bla M/T Trans. Code S54 Aisin or some crap.
It says it on the tranny on one of the sides as well, pretty big letters "S54" or E153 if its the turbo tranny....but I doubt that you will have the turbo tranny... psuPbikeRider8808-18-2009, 09:27 PMOk, I took a breif look at the tranny today, and could not see anything on it. I think the word you are looking for is "stamped"
I have a pic some place with where it is, I never looked myself, but I'm sure it's there. I've seem some tranny's at the Toyota dealer & could clearly make out a stamping of numbers on it....
It might indeed be in some awkward place only small asian folks can get to....Anyone chime in on this? After cleaning it up a litle bit i found the number 71210039 stamped into it right on top along the "lip" of the tranny right where it bolts to the motor. It also has the number 51 written on it in pink marker, although im sure thats just from some motor shop that had it at some point. Other than that I see no other markings on the trans, and i have looked a few times. I noticed that when I look into the part where the axles go that I cannot see through it. There is some sort of metal thing going straight across it. Any Ideas? I really want to get this figured out so I can order a flywheel and get my car running this winter when I'm on break. Thanks!

Factory cams are ok why change them ? You have VVTi . Dont get it.
Most of that stuff is for dissabled VVTi , but why do it.
Let me save you the trouble . Enjoy her as she is or be prepared to spend around $25,000 on an engine rebuild to get more out of your BEAMS in a NON FI setup.

You say another $15,000 in parts. I also do not plan on getting ITB's they are way to loud and annoying. I think you've talked me out of spending that much on the engine for now. But if I do decide to go forth with a complete engine rebuild, without the itb's that wont be for another 2 years.
And I dont really like the idea of a subaru engine in a toyota vehicle!

Phenoix header just has a better/cleaner look to it. thats all! Just look at maikl engine bay it looks so Good!! I also threw away my stock oem filter box that goes inside of the fender and an aftermarket intake looks better. And yes I know that an intake will not give me any hp.
I said c-one becuase they made up specifically for the st202 with beams redtop thats why! so it must be better right?

Most that have had problems relate to not using the OEM air box. 99% sure you will have the same problems. Gee inm still going to use my air box intack minus the MAF.
oem belt is fine why pay triple the amount for nothing. Change 100,000 kms by then you will drop the engine to do other things or sooner if you decide to burn your clutch
Stand alone always. You would be game to rev to 8,000 rpm on a used engine without knowing whats its been through . Which would mean taking it apart - greater cost and head aches
Spark plugs are fine leave the platinum in. Only change if going FI.
Honest advise is the best, might like the answers but thats my opinion.

I want to go with an aftermarket short ram intake to make the engine sound nicer and I will also be using the maf sensor in the piping. Ill try to find a sard filter or get an hks adapter to make the intake.

Idle issues really but maikl did it and it worked out for him right! Doesnt he have one of the highest whp from all beams redtop engines.

I can have wiring sent to dr tweak, he charges $300-400 if i send in my original wiring harness along with the beams harness. I thought the swap wasnt going to be this hard! Well which one is more efficient MAP or MAF

You have to run MAF on the OEM ECU .
Thats why if you dont get the air intake pipe right you will have issues/ Ild contavt mr220 v For piping info as he has done it right and can also do wiring
RST is correct and thats what i suggested, but all the ECU work will have yo run up to at least $4000 or moret
then add all the other things
My 2 cents i wouldnt open the engine unless your prepared to do a lot of things, pumps gaskets etc

Hopefully I get lucky with a full front clip from a celica that has the beams with helical lsd. All 3sge beams redtop that were put in celica's came with helical lsd right? I was reading that some ss-II celica came with viscious lsd on the beams??
how does this set-up sound :

I think from reading around about aluminum crankshaft pulley you save about 3 lb in weight from the stock one and some pulley are actually smaller than stock. So now I can see as to why I might have idle problems.

I mean c'mon now, Im doing an engine swap that wasnt even legalized in the U.S. Do you really think that I can pass smog with the current high flow cat that I have and the 3sge beams swap. I know that vvt-i helps cut down on emissions but I highly doubt that I will pass smog even if I do have a catalytic converter and everything on the beams redtop is stock. Swap is legal in certain states as long as stock.
That means your car is not registable. You have to change everything back every year.
If you get pulled of the road with an illegal swap is one thing but if you have no cats your in the highest catagory fines > $10,000.
AND if you were involved in an accident i would throw the book at you.
I think you should read up on balancers and their functions.
I think you should just see if you can get an engine first and get it running and worry about everything later. No 3sge or 3sgte is legal in the states. Not smog passable, unless you live in the central part of america where smog laws are minimal. smog is done every 2 years btw.
If i got in an accident with my swapped engine and completely brand new celica I would kill myself, before you had a chance to throw the book at me. Yes I know that there are fines and what not. Its funny that you say that becuase I have a friend with a 6th gen celica swapped with a 3rd gen 3sgte. He got pulled over becuase he only has a downpipe and no exhaust so its so loud. Cop even made him open his hood and gave him a referee ticket. It even says 2000cc on the top mount intercooler and the officer wasnt smart enough to run the vin # on the vehicle. He somehow got out of the referee ticket even though he had to pay some fines. He got lucky!
Im only 19 years old and still have much too learn about engines. So Ill take your word on the crankpulley and not get one. But I figured that since maikl did it I could do it as well.

I gotta ask though where are you guys hetting $4k for fitting an ECU though? I paid circa £1k for my swap (minus all materials), all the wiring was taken into account and paid another £1.6k incl dyno time (mates rates) and the road mapping was included. sh1t, I never paid close to $4k end of on my engine so far apart from the engine itself and that includes ECU. I( haven't done anything daft / OCD like Angelo though:rofl::rofl:)

I think Angelo and I (wayno and no doubt Glenn) are running aftermarket ECU's with good results but I'll b et our bottom dollar the choice of the mapper has a llot to do with it. I hate to say but it's not a regular 3SGE so you can't just go with the 3SGTE guys recommendations.
...Link was a good option for me, cost about £1,500 including a very hefty mapping session and he was very familiar with it. There wasn't any benefits for going Motec when I bought. yeah i have a test harness i made to use the 1zz-fe power-fc, i used a zzw30 1zz-fe power-fc, from memory you need to take the four seperate ignition coil returns and splice them together, move the warning light wire, and just a couple of other changes i cant remember right now but its all dead simple, you need 1zz-fe coils but they are a direct swap for the beams ones, I have the info but its been a while since i did it, and the harness and coils are there for anyone who wanted to go down this route i'd only charge postage + beer tokens :) BonzaiCelica03-10-2010, 03:49 AMhey guys I was looking on the best motoring videos off youtube and it seems like almost all of the cars that are tuned and put on the touge and the racetrack have apex power fc ecu. are apex power fc a good standalone ecu. what kinda horsepower gains can you expect from a standalone ecu. And if you wanted to increase redline on the redtop, it would be best to fully rebuild the engine with new gaskets right?
