View Full Version : WANT TO ADD SMALLER SUPERCHARGER PULLEY

newtomr205-09-2008, 11:19 PMhave an '88 supercharged mr2. the only mod i have done is had a rare TRD header with a thrush mini turbo muffler installed. i want more zip and i am told by my toyota mechanic that as far as pulleys go, the supercharger pulley would be the one to change. all i know is by installing a smaller pulley will make the supercharger spin faster thus increasing the performance. the things i don't know...where to find one, what size to get and if i can get by without doing any other mods after changing this pulley. i had one mr2 inthusiast tell me i would not have to do any mods but i needed to keep the boost below 8 or 9 pounds. i am told that a TRD supercharger pulley is the way to go but they are now extinct. can anyone HELP me??? ATSAaron05-11-2008, 07:38 PMAFAIK there never was a TRD supercharger pulley. Search for the NEVO crank pulley. That is what I ran on my 88 SC a few years ago.

Aaron newtomr205-11-2008, 09:22 PMhey aaron, thank you for the info. with the nevo crank pulley...is there just one size or if not what was the size you used???how much difference did it make? also, what other mods would i have to make on my stock mr2 if i went with the nevo crank pulley??the only mod i have done is a TRD exhaust and thrush mini turbo muffler. thanks, matthew ATSAaron05-12-2008, 11:23 AMThe only other mod I did was a boost gauge and an intake, basically mounted a pipe and filter in the trunk.

The NEVO is a 12-13 psi pulley. I didn't have a dyno back then, but I would have guessed a 25 hp gain.

Aaron dee8o812-22-2014, 01:45 AMjdm ae92/101 sc pulley is smaller = 2psi more . personally i stay away from the crank pulley unless balanced. imay opt to go w/ Whipple 1.6L twnscrw ..well see yoshimitsuspeed12-23-2014, 12:29 AMTechnotoytuning still makes a 175mm pulley.
I have my prototype which I am going to be testing in the next couple weeks. It includes an integrated trigger wheel for those running engine management and distributorless ignition.
On USDM ECU and some other GZE ECUs you will get low end leanout over 10 PSI. It starts to get scary at about 12 PSI. Amazingly many people have run more than that without issues but it is still risky.
If you do decide to run over 10 PSI I would definitely recommend addressing the low end leanout.

There were some smaller supercharger pulleys available back in the day but not any longer. I have had a couple people approach me about this but it would be a waste of money IMO.
One thing to remember is that the SC12 and SC14 are rated to a 1.8:1 pressure ratio. At that point they are in the low 50% to low 60% efficiency on the map. That is 12 PSI at sea level. Above that you are above the factory rating, off the map and lower than 50% efficiency. You would be so much better off going turbo.

I guess you could spend $4000 for 200 hp, or you could go turbo and spend $2000 for 400 hp but to each their own I guess.
Personally I would go TVS if anything. At least Eaton shows their maps and their claims actually match the maps.
The twinscrew companies make wild ass claims then when you finally unearth a map it doesn't line up at all with the claims. Whipple is about the worst I have seen.
Still even TVS is going to be twice the money for half the power over turbo. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
