I am chris, new here asking a couple hints sugestions and question on The mr subject.

I have now a 300zx n/a for sale if any one wants to buy....which is of course rwd., I am going to prabably buy a Mr2 turbo pretty soon, and I was wondering a these questions,

1. I have driven rwd, with 10% tread in rain and man that was rough, will the mr2 be this bad if I had new tires?
2. I hear all these stories of Mr2's loosing control on the offramp. , Were gthey going 100mph or were they turning to hard....It seems like I never would want to go on and off ramp after I hear that all they wreck on.
3. Someone talked about cleaning the grounds on an mr2 or stuff will catch on fire....Anyone have any suggestion on where they are and how to clean them? Or if i need to...
4. Mr's and Z's are very very diferent, I would like some tips on how to maintain, and not to "kill " the turbo.
5. Are you trying to scare people into getting an Mr2, I saw this tread and its like your saying your going to crash it the 1st day. If I did drive it a actual speed limits, and listend to the rules of highway regualtions and what not, would it actually be that bad?

I will probably think twice after what happend in my other 300zx, and after going fast all the time it catches up to you really quick.

If anyone can answer my question I will greatly apperciate it.
Thankz
Chris mr2slow4you11-21-2005, 10:25 PMIf you find a nice condition mr2 you will never be happier, after I found out my front shocks had opposite caster I quickly discovered the amazing handling potential of this car. The car can be perfectly safe, you just need to take some respect with it, and develop some fitness when driving it hard. Of course in the rain I find that even with good tires driving over 45 or 50mph is somewhat unsettling. Just don't be a dumbass and you will be fine. As far as not "killing" the turbo, if you find a good condition two that has been adequatly cared for most its life, proper shut-down is almost the only thing you have to worry about... besides getting carried away and upping the boost alot. Just make sure you wait till you find a good-well cared for mr2, and I think you will be ok. Also, around 90-100k I believe is when you should be worried about a small collant hose near the turbo that has the potental to go out. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am mis leading him. Hi Chris, welcome to the board.

1. Car should do fine if the tires are new and good in the rain. It's still a good idea to drive under the speed limit in bad conditions, though.

2. They were either going too fast or they hit the brakes too hard in the corner. It's not the cars fault, it's the drivers. You need to learn how to drive a rear engine / rear weight biased car before you go racing around. I don't give offramps or any other turn for that matter much more than a second thought anymore, now that I know my car. Just remember never speed around a turn if you dont know what's on the other side or you are not used to the car yet. It's a good idea to get some track time in so you know exactly how to handle things.

3. You should clean and test the grounds on ANY car, especially anything with lots of electronics. Some (very very few, I've read maybe 3 posts in 8 years of owning MR2s) have reported fires from bad grounds. There's a tranny ground that you should check I believe, and a few in the engine bay. Nothing difficult and should be a breeze to replace or upgrade.

4. I'm not a turbo guy so I will let somebody else answer this.

5. If you drive the speed limits and obey traffic laws, theres no reason to worry. The MR2 handles like a dream, IF you know how to handle a rear weight biased car, otherwise it may handle like a nightmare IF you are going over speed limits.

HTH

he is right be patience, and wait for a clean and adult own 2. u dont want to end up like me basically rebuilding the entire car Slade11-22-2005, 01:56 AMIf you don't have LSD, then don't corner too fast! Weasy2k11-22-2005, 02:16 AMi drive fast around corners without an lsd.... tigerpee11-22-2005, 10:08 AMI've driven my friend Z n/a before. Its big and heavy. But honestly, I think the interiors nicer than the 2. mr2slow4you11-22-2005, 11:03 AMTry for a 93+, I like the handling alot better, I find it easier to control and predict. Also, there are several improvements made, such as larger brakes all around. Weasy2k11-22-2005, 12:49 PMAPERENTLY the 93 is good for street driving and a bt of track but people rather take the 91 setup as its more predictable when its going to spin out and many racers like using those. I forgot wehere i got that from but its true...when a 93 car hits its limit your royaly messed....vs 91 you kinda know right away and can get a chance to correct. I tried this theory on a local mountain parking lot here and there is a small difference... The Pre 93 is more easy to snap out than the 93+. The 93+ limit before snap is higher which means more force on the car, so when it does snap unlike the pre 93 there is less warning. Weasy2k11-23-2005, 12:53 AMyea thats pritty much what i said :)

So you can handle the 93 better if yuor the type that takes it to the track alot...a typical street app the 93 would be the best....awsome brakes and good suspension mr2slow4you11-23-2005, 06:05 PMWhen I swaped my suspension over to the 93+, I found that the car felt easier to control when the rear was pushed to hard. Mister2.211-23-2005, 09:00 PMWhat all was involved in switching to the 93+? ZMR211-23-2005, 10:41 PMAnyone know if anybody wants a 93 300zx convertible, the one im selling....let me know..7,000 obo...101k you may think its a lot, but its rarer than the twin turbos :) (3,794 made)
Will be putting it up on ebay soon but juss wanted to ask people....
Thankz for the replies.
Chris Weasy2k11-24-2005, 02:03 AMit can take more but when push to its limit there is NO warnining it jsut lets go.... ZMR212-12-2005, 02:21 AMThe car I want has lsd jdm tranny....and new suspension i belive the 93+.
Just wondering how different it is if you dont have power steering....and if you could make a manuel locking doors, to power locks. Weasy2k12-12-2005, 02:25 AMto make the doors powered you have to get electrical actuators and wire them in...or find a place which has alot of trashed '2s and find some door panels to remove and take the panels + wiring + motors and stuff...or the door :P
That would be the cleanest way of installing things too....

chicoraceworks may have some stuff as well. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
