View Full Version : Ebay "Tracer" style engine cover

DJMDMA0210-21-2007, 03:38 PMI knew I would get around to posting this, it was just going to take me a little longer than I thought due to various problems :(

First of all, I bought my engine cover from here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290159722089&rd=1).

It took only like 5 days from purchase to when I had it in my hands, good seller

It looked like this when I got it:

Then I went out and bought some meshing, some bathroom caulk sealer, bolts, weather tape from home depot. I also got two cans ofr clear coat from pep boys

I then took the seperated pieces of the engine cover and went to go do a test fit, unfortunately, got a bolt stripped and decided to wait till later:

Next was to wet sand the whole thing to get it ready to be clear coated:

http://thumbnails.freeimagehost.eu/136/4847fe1354431.gif (http://www.freeimagehost.eu/image/4847fe1354431)

And then to clear coat it:

Now, whilst the clear coat was drying, now was the time to go and cut out the mesh:

And it finished:

Now it was time to take it and using the caulking attach it to the engine cover:

http://thumbnails.freeimagehost.eu/136/f20d201354438.gif (http://www.freeimagehost.eu/image/f20d201354438)

And that finished:

Then it was just putting it on the car... Which, I seem to have misplaced the picture, so i'll upload that as an addition soon as I take another. Needless to say, the base for the cover was a little warped when I put it on , so one of my buddies who helped out alot with this was kind enough to pick up a NA engine cover, which were planning on taking and putting the top piece of the engine cover on. well, till I get the picture, there is the $220 ebay engine cover. DJMDMA0210-24-2007, 10:38 AMThe final product:

Have you noticed any change in how how the engine tends to run since you put that on? That's always a concern of mine with engine lids like this because it doesn't seem like you'd have the vacuum forming behind the rear window helping the engine bay circulate anymore. DJMDMA0211-02-2007, 12:10 PMI have not had any problem with it overheating. near as I can tell, it just sucks the heat out of the new vents. The cover itself stay very cool. The engine will run just fine. I've had my bomex style lid for over 4 years now and it has cause no unusual overheating problems: http://baktasht.com/_images/cars/wbmr2/cleanedup/IMAGE_00052.jpg Gairloch11-02-2007, 03:29 PMwerd

I wonder if it's still functioning well because of the way the lid is designed, or if that vacuum just isn't as necessary as I thought. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
