View Full Version : how are maaco paintjobs?

Mike_E_P07-28-2007, 11:07 PMI know im probly going to get a shitload of shit for saying this but i need to know. I was looking at there 3rd level (second best) option "supreme". Anyone know if its a good quality paint and if its worth the money. they say it has a "4 year guarantee".

I have a bunch of rust spots and was going to have them fix by welding metal with some anti rust stuff, he said that was way better than the fiberglass option because it eliminates the rust that spreads from the inside of the metal to the surface.

I was going to do the super red because i haven't seen anything else i like that well on the mk1. Was looking for a picture of the mk1 with a matalic red if anyone has one. Also post pics of any nice paint jobs on the Mk1.

thanks! driftmonster07-28-2007, 11:12 PMCrappy. Ben07-28-2007, 11:15 PMIt all depends on the people at the shop. My friend had a Maaco paint job that looked awesome. And my dealer uses a Maaco shop (who we trust) for used car repairs and they come back looking clean.

At the same time I've seen some absolute crap from other Maaco's. It all depends on the people running/working that the place. jakobe07-28-2007, 11:27 PMI just had Maaco paint my 03 Envoy

it looks okay
I had some rear end damage and had them repaint and blend
the rear hatch, rear bumper, and rear fenders it cost me 400-500 (cant remeber exactly)

But it isnt the greatest the color match is about 90% and the quality on a scale of 1-10 would be a 7.5

The blemishes in it are something that only I notice, nobody has ever said anything about them.

it looks decent , but not something I would recommend for a show car or a hobby car, but for an everyday driver and something to cruise for chicks in, it will do. Mike_E_P07-28-2007, 11:47 PMCrappy.

how much to you would be a good price for a good paint job?

and blemishes eh? that doesn't sound to good... do they not sand it enough or what? i was hoping this would bring me one step closer to showroom quality. jakobe07-29-2007, 12:00 AMblemishes = little areas where the paint missed on the inside of the hatch around the bots and hinges and seals

I went from a red salvage yard hatch to a pewter one

heres some pics B&A

Bak@EMSPowered07-29-2007, 10:02 AMDepends how much they care about your car turning out good. Typically, its gonna be crappy though. jakobe07-29-2007, 11:00 AMDepends how much they care about your car turning out good. Typically, its gonna be crappy though.

yup that is true,

Our maaco does work for the GM dealer here thats the main reason I went to them, they already had my color in stock and dint have to order it.
if I would have had the dealer fix the truck it would have ended up at Maaco anyways.

the paint is good and smooth, very shiny. just I dont think they did a perfect job of taping it off, but again I dont care, I knew what I was paying for.

Although I rated them a 7.5 on the job and said that the paint matched 90%
my satisifaction rating for them would be be 100%
the paint job is actually better than what I expected them to do.

They did indeed return it to a "stock" finish. and thats what I was paying for, but I dont think I will trust them when it comes to painting my MR2.

The GMC is my everyday driver, its not meant to be flashy, the MR2 is my hobby car and I think deserves a high quality paint job.

but , If your on a budget and cant afford the custom job, I would rather you take it to Maaco to get it sprayed than drive around with for 2 years with an unpainted body kit like the honda kidz do. Mike_E_P07-29-2007, 11:25 AMyea, its going to look better than it does now. It currently has rust over all 4 wheels and on the back pumper and on the doors the clear coat is pealing.
