View Full Version : Are automotive spray paints any good?

Jer_ry07-04-2007, 11:33 PMI always see those little spray cans in the automotive sections of stores claiming they are automotive paint and there is even a clear coat but do those actually come out good? I am looking into painting my driver and passenger mirrors black and might go this route if it's worth a crap. If anyone has ever had any success with those or anything else in a rattle can let me know! TomsMR207-05-2007, 12:16 AMthey come out just fine, and then fade quickly and look like crap in a few months. if you add the clear coat, it just peels off and looks like twice as much crap.

if you dont mind stripping the bad paint off and respraying, and then buffing it constantly when it fades, rattle cans are fine i guess. its no substitute for real automotive paint. real car paint is chemically hardened and VERY much more durable than air dried paints. te51levin07-08-2007, 01:15 PMTom, what paint have you tried? I used DupliColor on my old AE86 and it looked fantastic, but I sold the car shortly afterward and don't know how well it held up over time.
