View Full Version : Group Buy on AW11 coilovers

4agze5202-09-2007, 08:22 PMGroup Buy on AW11 coilovers currently only offered for 87-89, 85-86 will be available in March
Coilovers are imported by Function/Form and are well known with the honda guys. i talked to them about bring coilovers for the aw11 and this is what we came up with

Specs
-18 way adjustable dampeners

-adjustable droop travel
-adjustable front camber plate
-rear pillow ball mount
-front swaybar endlinks

i ve been testing these coilovers for over 6 months now and made changes to them. the pictures are of the last test version. the production models are polished and come with F2 springs not ebaich the ebaich springs in the picture were for spring rate testing. i ll have pictures of the production models next week i have to download them from my camrea

GROUP BUY CLOSED all sets sold out CpuZapper02-09-2007, 08:58 PMSo wait, what makes them different? The two revisions mount the same both at the tophat, and the hub. The only difference is the strut tube diameter, and the strut diameter.

What is the spring length and diameter on these? I assume they are a linear rate spring as well.

Are these a rebuildable strut? What diameter is the piston, and the strut shaft? Are they an oil or gas dampner? Are the rebound/compression seperately adjustable or are they like the Koni's where it mainly adjusts bound and slightly affects rebound? Granted for $860 that's an excellent price for all that, but I can get rebuildable 40mm seperate bound/rebound adjustable units for a couple hundred more. I'm not trying to blast your product, as it looks to be excellent quality, I just need to see if it will fit my needs. 4agze5202-09-2007, 11:15 PMtwo revisions? i didnt post the revisions i made the pics are of the same coilover just different angles
-spring length is 7" (and 8" will fit as well) and the ID of the spring is 2.5"
-yes these struts are rebuildable and revalvable
-piston diameter and shaft i ll get back to you on that
-yes the springs are linear (the ebaichs in the pic are not)
-rebound/compression adjusted together

the main thing for me as i was looking for coilovers myself was that the custom sets (ground control sleeves and koni shocks) was that the droop was way too long and the lose of travel. coilovers are designed to have shorter droop travel and have a shorter body so one can retain stock height travel. also these are height adjustable without the lose of travel. so these were the main reason i set out to get these made

no i totally understand $860 is a lot of money and i am glad you asked all these questions because i am sure another board member will have the same
i am hoping to get a discussion going and your post helps with that CpuZapper02-09-2007, 11:25 PMBy revision I meant '85-'86 vs '87-'89. The only difference I knew of between them was that the strut tube had a larger diameter to fit the larger strut insert. I currently have '89 tubes and tophats on my '86 and they bolted straight in. I guess I'm trying to figure out why you have to versions. 4agze5202-10-2007, 02:30 AMoh, yeah the main difference between the 85-86 and 87-89 is that the rear knuckle is bigger on the 87-89 the rear knuckle on the 87-89 is the same size as on the sw20 on the 85-86 its the same size as the front of the aw11 CpuZapper02-10-2007, 03:02 AMAh crap, you're right. I completely forgot about that! Damn I'm just forgetting all kinds of pertinent information as of late. Engine designations, revision differences, head differences, where I put my keys, that my laptop isn't supposed to go in the fridge, etc. Exactly why you shouldn't work in a server room 6 days a week. Thanks for the awesome group buy. Once I hear more about the actual strut, I might just be down for a set. bmeier02-10-2007, 04:09 AMnice, i cant wait to see the production model. Tyler H02-10-2007, 08:24 AMWish I saw this a couple of days ago. :( Pressurized02-10-2007, 02:56 PMI'm in.

What range of spring rates will be available Jim? 4agze5202-10-2007, 11:59 PMTyler_H, sorry i lagged acutally i wasnt even going to start the group buy but i got so many emails asking me to start it

Pressurized, the spring rates start from 4kg to 13kg also there is no extra charge for custom spring rates rxxxdruggist02-19-2007, 07:54 PMseems like an awesome product jim...put me on the list as a maybe for an 85...would like to see pics of it before i buy:devil: thanks for doing the groupbuy as to my knowledge there is no where else that we a-dubbers could get a hold of some high quality coilovers

dennis Ncturnal02-20-2007, 12:18 AMI'll pick up a set if I decide to keep my 89. blakecj702-23-2007, 06:13 PM4agze52,
I got in on the orginal group buy about a year ago. What's the difference between the orginal ones and these new ones? Also I would like to get in on this group buy. I need payment info, either pm me or email a blakecj7 at yahoo .com.
Thanks 0773402-24-2007, 06:40 PMany news on the coilovers?? 4agze5203-03-2007, 01:25 PMhey guys sorry for the late replays for some reason i stopped getting email alerts so i didnt know there were new posts
i have good news and bad news the good news is the coilovers came in the bad news is there was a mix up in communication and the coilovers didnt come with camber plates so the company will be sending those over in a different shippment i ll have pics posted later today i just have to download them from the camrea

Rxxxdruggist thanks i know you ll like them i ve been testing them now for 6 months and i really like them a lot they give a good balance between performance and comfort swing by sometime and i ll give you a ride

Ncturnal yeah let me know if you want a set

Blakecj7 the main difference between these sets and the original ones are the dampener valving and valve design right off the bat you ll notice these are much more comfortable on the street and bounce a lot less the D2 valving was too stiff i was getting complaints about mr2s skipping all over the freeway. also the adjustabment knob clicks so you ll know which setting you re at. the cumbersom swaybar mount is gone, on the new models the bracket is welded to the main bracket so there is much more room for adjustments with travel, droop, and spring lengths. the camber plates (when they get here) are much more robust then the D2 oh and also they have brakeline brackets so you can mount the brakelines.

please feel free to email me about any questions or concerns at altezzasxe10@juno.com again sorry for the delay as i said earlier i ll post pics later today

thanks 86Markone03-06-2007, 02:29 PMHow much were they again? 860 still? oasis03-06-2007, 07:53 PMI'm interested - are there any sets available? 4agze5203-09-2007, 03:46 AMyes the coilovers are still $860 and there are sets still available

do you know when the 85 coilovers are coming in?>

pm me if you could, thnx. yoshimitsuspeed04-04-2007, 12:16 AMAny idea how these would hold up to rough roads and dirt?
How hard are they to revalve?
How hard is it to get replacement parts and shocks?
What is the total shock travel compared to stock? SteevoBLK8704-04-2007, 07:05 PMHow much of a drop can I get from this coilover kit? 4agze5204-07-2007, 01:35 AMyoshimitsuspeed i ve never tested them in the dirt but i ve been driving with them on really bad roads, pot holes, large ruts and cracks, uneven pavement if you ve ever driven in LA you ll know what i mean. i havent had any problems with them at all but you do get a one year warrenty with them.
as for revalves it can be done but will take a month or so. if you have certain specs you want i can have those valved before they send them over. the company stocks replacment parts and shocks so turn around time is a week. shock travel is adjustable as well as droop travel right now my car has 3" of travel (which is stock) and 2 inches of droop travel (stock droop travel is 4")

SteevoBLK87 you can almost lay frame, i ve gonna as low as 3.5" AW111 MR204-07-2007, 12:44 PMI was looking to get two pairs(2 seats & 2 locks).

Ashkente05-07-2007, 02:07 PMWondering what's going on with this gb as well.. 4agze5205-08-2007, 02:48 AMi am really sorry for the long wait its been hard getting these ready but everything got fixed. its mostly stupid communication errors the first shippment arrived with no camber plates so we had to work on the camber plates that took a month of sending back and forth protoype version to test fittment the last set came in two weeks ago and i gave it the thumbs up so they are get produced once do the company will ship them over here so i can mount them to my original shippment to send you to you guys. again i am really sorry for the long delay i ve been getting a lot of emails id like to also thank everyone for their patients Supa Fast06-15-2007, 07:43 PMim hoping to see pics. and i'll have to save some money to get it. AW111 MR207-23-2007, 03:28 PMWhats going on with the Group Buy? Did it die? 4agze5207-27-2007, 02:15 PMok everyone I AM REALLY SORRY FOR THE DELAY heres whats been happening the first group of coilovers came in with no rear top mounts like i had promised so i communicated that to the company and they sent me test mounts to make sure they have the right engineering after about 4 test mounts i gave up and told them to take back, well i found out why the test mounts never fit, the first engineer they assigned me quit and took all his data with him including my OEM top mounts i sent over. the replacment engineer had nothing to go on except some raw numbers so i sent him another OEM mount and just got the new test mount in and good news it fits
so if you guys are still interested i ll have a new shippment ordered
again sorry for the delay lsgheero07-27-2007, 04:35 PMhow much shipped to peoria az 85345? 4agze5207-29-2007, 03:41 AMisgheero the coilovers are $860 i ll look up shipping for you on monday rxxxdruggist08-02-2007, 02:13 PMthanks for meeting up with me and showing me the prototype...looks really good...i just sent you payment for a set...let me know when you will have it...if you want i can swing by and pick up so that i can save on shipping.
