If so, what are its capabilities? Can it act as a mildly restricted EMS? Sang12-11-2006, 01:46 PMThey need the ECU in the beginning because they need to install the techtom board. Once that start up cost is done with, you can have retunes sent to you in the mail if necessary for $150 each (it's comparable to adding more RAM to your comp for the install).

It's capabilities is much like a EMS. The only problem is that Aaron hasn't quite gotten it to work with anything larger than 550's (though ken and aaron say they are hoping growth into larger injectors, but I suspect that is still a ways out).

RickyB/MRControls is currently reverse engineering the stock ECU to attempt to make a user reprogrammable rom tune. If a shop had the correct tools and know how, I don't know why they wouldn't be able to retune your ECU, but I also suspect reputable shops capable of it are few and far between.

GForce ECU's use the same tech tom board as ATS, so if you nearby a GForce tuner, they could do your ATS rom tune as well. kblake12-11-2006, 01:48 PMSo, with these, do you simply replace a cell in the computer that makes it programable?

We desolder the CPU from the mainboard, and solder a socket in it's place. A Techtom ROM board gets plugged into the socket, and the CPU then goes in a socket on the Techtom board. The Techtom board also has two EEPROM sockets. We program ROM chips to your specifications (based on our extensive library of tunes, developed on our dyno) and install them.


Once its done, can a local shop tune it?

Nope. They would need the (very expensive) Techtom hardware.

No, but you also don't have to send it back. If you significantly alter VE (Cams, a different turbo, a sheet metal intake manifold) we can burn you new chips for $150 and mail them to you. Install difficulty is comparable to upgrading RAM on a PC.

Actually, G-Force Engineering is simply another Techtom dealer, so there wouldn't be a "Nearby GForce tuner", unless they are local to G-Force. (aren't they out of business?)

In any case, both ATS and G-Force use encrypted chips, so both chips need to be replaced if we tune theirs, or they tune ours, which costs more.

I always wondered why someone with a gforce couldn't get another chip from you guys, but I never really researched that part either since I hardly ever see G-Force ECU's anymore. Lol, the day after i post this I found a gforce for sale modified for 550's for MUUUUCH cheaper than my original plan to get a blitz/mines ecu from Josh (CRW).

Just curious, if i'm not happy with my AFRs or decide to get a dual map for race gas, I may consider getting it modified by you guys to accept ATS's tunes. Ken, can you refresh my memory on how much the cost is to modify a GForce with a 550 dual map? $250 for 440's, $350 for 550's. $150 for any retunes once you are using our encrypted chips.
