View Full Version : First Time Autocross in Supercharged AW11

SC12_MR204-05-2016, 03:57 PMI had been wanting to autocross for a while and went to a few events in my area just to meet people and I finally gathered the courage to get my car ready.
I'm racing in the ES Novice class. The Aw11 is completely stock except for some Dunlop Star Spec ZII's which are amazing tires by the way.
Performed an alignment and set it to the Stage 2 TRD specs, I didn't do toe out however because the event was an hour away and I didn't want to scrub off my new tires on the way :p

I got slightly lost my first run which but finished with a 64.889... pretty bad but by the end of the day I managed to get a 54.720 and placed first in novice! 68th out of 98 overall and 51st out of 98 in PAX.

The video is shaky and you can't see driver inputs and there is a ton of wind noise. Next time I will have a camera mounted in car to see input and an external mic placed near the rear bumper to eliminate wind noise.

Let me know what you think and what I should work on to improve my times, I am open to any and all advice :)

GREAT JOB SC12_MR204-07-2016, 03:22 PMI saw some of your videos, they looked like some really clean runs. That was a dual event, they have two of those a year and the parking lot is huge as you could see. Normally we have it in a smaller parking lot which like you said means a more technical course. Light cars such as MR2s and Miatas shine on small technical courses though :) scottohno04-10-2016, 02:07 PMi thought i was the only one watching those videos

i will be going to many more events. i cant get enough. next one the 30th. i cant wait. i will bring more cameras next time, and try to edit the films. AmerksMoose05-16-2016, 12:31 PMNice, good run there. Consistent speed, smooth braking, good looking lines through and out of the corners. The car really allows you to "back end" the cones, so I find I get better times when I really just take it to the edge. There's a fine line between "just late enough" vs "too late" on the car.

I mostly run rallyx events so a lot of my speed scrubbing happens by going sideways and downshifting, the RPM are just so tall on the car that you can make it gallop out of hairpin turns. At our last event, it was a 2 day setup. The first day had lots of wide runs into big sweeping corners. the second day was much more technical, with quick turns and chicanes. the car was much better for the second day, as I could really dip into the lines and avoid the ruts better than the larger cars could.

this stuff is a lot of fun. if you have a way to do it, check your car's cross weights. Mine weighed in at 2,350 and was about 43-57 front to back, and no more than 2% off corner to corner. Nice. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
