View Full Version : NoSirItsAToyota - My car history + Lots of pics!

NoSirItsAToyota07-04-2005, 05:47 PMMy name is Ryan and I'm from Bloomington Minnesota. I've been the proud owner of my 91 turbo for 2 years now.

My passion for cars all started when I got my first import car, a 91 Integra GS. After seeing all the aftermarket support for these cars, I just had to get into it. :D

The Integra was bone stock when I got it. Then I did the usual intake and exhaust, then lowered it, got wheels, tails, clear corners, short shifter, blah blah blah. It actually ended up being pretty quick. I had no problems keeping up with stock DSM's from a roll. It was a pretty sweet car. Had it for almost 5 years and only had to replace the water pump.

Yes I'm aware that it was ricey. But to this day I STILL love the black and white! :p

But last winter was the end for that car. An icy road and me being careless sent the car sideways into a curb at about 25mph and messed it up to the point I didn't want to fix it.

Note: The pics may not look too bad, but there was frame damage. And the rear quarter panel bowed outward.

continued in next post.... NoSirItsAToyota07-04-2005, 06:15 PMSo....

While I had the Integra, I bought a black 95 Eclipse GS-T hardtop (no pics, sorry). I got it for $1200!!! This is where my turbo addiction began. Then I sold the Eclipse 3 months later to begin my search for my new found dream car...the MR2 turbo.

It took 6 months of searching. 6 months of let downs. 6 months of people not wanting to sell at the last minute. 6 months of calling. 6 months of one disappointment after the other.

I gave up the search at this point. It was just too disappointing and depressing. I started calling dealerships to find a newer car. I decided I was going to get a 97-98 Eagle Talon TSI AWD (everyone here has Eclipses so I didn't want that same body style). I picked one out and was finalizing the deal with the dealership so the car could be shipped up to Minnesota.

Now, while I was on the phone with the dealership for the first time ever, I got a call from a guy looking to sell his MR2T. His name was Brian and he was from Ohio. He told me all about the car. He said it had 96,000 miles, ran awesome, body was in great shape, it was bone stock, and he was asking $5,000 for the car. Pretty much right then and there, I told him "I'LL TAKE IT!" I didn't even see a picture of it. I didn't need to. He described it so well, that I wasn't even worried. I asked him if he could deliver it to me, and he said YES. How awesome is this?!? He said he could bring it up the following weekend. Perfect. This car was as good as mine.

I call the dealership, and told them I can't buy the car. I felt like such an ass for wasting their time and everything, but it had to be done.

I talked with Brian probably every day before he came up to Minnesota with the car. He even started up the car while I was on the phone with him so I could hear it run. :D Man was I excited. And Brian was one cool ass guy. We talked a lot about music and cars. He told me about his family and how he had a new baby on the way (partial reason for having to sell the MR2).

Next post - The big day! NoSirItsAToyota07-04-2005, 07:46 PMNow remember, I had not seen a single pic of this car. I knew what to expect, but I had never really even seen an MR2 up close before!

Brian left in the evening and drove all through the night to get here. The only problem was that we were getting hit with the last snow of the year. He had to deal with the snow and icy roads for most of the way here and almost lost control a few times! I told him that at any point if he felt that he should stop, that I would reimburse him for a hotel room so he didn't kill himself. He kept in touch during the whole drive to let me know he was safe and so I knew where he was.

Then sometime in the morning I get the last call "I'm in Bloomington!". I tell him to go to this church parking lot and I'll meet him there and he can follow me back.

I have never felt so much excitement in my life as I had felt on that drive to meet him. I almost couldn't handle it. There were no more if's, and's, or but's. I was going to finally own my dream car.

As I was about to pull in the parking lot, I could see the top of the car just over some bushes. I pull in by him and get out. I don't even look at the car. I go straight up to Brian, shake his hand and finally properly introduce myself. I think I owe the guy a lot for what he did, so I wasn't about to just gawk at the car and leave him hanging.

Now this car was DIRTY from the drive. He hands me the keys (you would have NEVER been able pry those keys out of my hand after that moment. challenge my death grip motha****a ;)) and we go straight to the car wash. :D

The car just BLINGED after that. Then we went to the bank and got the title notarized and I payed him for the car. 5 grand well spent!

Then I bought us some kick ass lunch at Famous Dave's. While we were talking he told me he had a brand new ATS throttle body inlet and new TRD plug wires that I could buy too. So I told him that I'd take em for sure when he got back home. After the lunch I had to bring him to the airport to catch his flight home. I payed for his plane ticket. :)

So here we are 2 years later...

http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/9905/key1110hk.jpg NoSirItsAToyota07-04-2005, 08:37 PMI killed the Integra earlier this year. That was my winter car. I had to get a replacement for it because you all know MR2's were not made for snow.

So I picked up this guy: :D

I would like to thank the following people:

-All of the fellow MR2 owners for the awesome support and help. I've made a lot of friends on these forums. You guys know your shit, that's all I got to say!

-My girlfriend Lindsey, for her understanding the importance of this car to me. She has always been willing to get dirty when I needed a set of small hands. :D She also keeps me focused so I don't give up on my projects when I get pissed off thinking I can't do something.

-My Mom for letting me take up 2 spaces in the garage and letting me make a big mess while ripping the cars apart. :)

-My good friends for all the help they have given me working on the cars. Especially Nate (OMX) who helped a TON with my turbo install.

-And most of all, Brian. Thank you for going out of your way and taking time off work and away from your family to bring me this car. It has been one of the most reliable cars ever! I've been running 18psi daily for a year now with zero issues. In my opinion, $5k for this car was an amazing deal. Come up and visit any time and I'll treat you to some Famous Dave's again. I might even let you drive the car! :D Thanks so much bud! mr2na07-05-2005, 09:34 AMNice car. Awesome check in! RingFang07-05-2005, 11:31 AMRyan!!!! Nice to meet you officially! NoSirItsAToyota07-05-2005, 05:45 PMThanks guys! I was gonna try to keep this short and to the point, but that idea went to hell and it ended up taking me at least an hour. :D Bryan_from_Ohio07-06-2005, 10:55 AMRyan,
I would like to thank you for all the kind words. I knew the first time I called you on the phone, I knew you were just the person I wanted to own my MR2. I had the car for a few years and as you said my family was getting bigger and the 2 seater was getting a little small. My son still asks where the car went and I tell him dad sold it to one his friends in Minnesota.
I can tell you the car looks incredible and at 18 psi, I am sure it is very hard to hang with around the streets of Bloomington. Keep in touch as always and I am glad to be here on the MR2 Board reading about all the new mods that all you guys are running. Keep safe and keep the car perfect as you have and I would love to come out sometime and let you take me for a spin :D
Bryan form Ohio wallcrawlr07-06-2005, 12:22 PMthats cool (this part now added for Ryans benefit) that the prior owner stopped by and gave you the ol' how-ya-doing  NoSirItsAToyota07-06-2005, 05:37 PMAWESOME! I emailed this link to Bryan (been spelling his name all wrong this whole time! oops) and here he is! Thanks for stopping by bud. I'm glad I got to finally show you the car how it sits now. I hope you stick around here or at least stop by every now and then. If you ever come this way again, please call me and let me know. Thanks again for everything! NoSirItsAToyota07-06-2005, 05:41 PMthats cool
