MR2LiveCrew03-30-2016, 01:18 AMWhere I live rust free cars don't come up for sale very often, so when this MR2 went up for sale I had to jump on it immediately. I picked the up car the very next day with the help of my friend (who also is a MR2 owner). Went to check it out and everything looked clean. From what I gather the owner had a shop in Texas do a 3SGTE swap. They apparently never got it to run right and it supposedly knocked since day 1. He had his dad trailer it back up here to Fargo to help him with it. After awhile and assistance from other friends they gave up on the car and sold it to me. Supposedly the swap only has 60,000 miles on it but we all know how that goes.

Got it trailered back to my shop space I rent with some friends to get started on it.

This car is going to need some serious turd polish once I get it running. This was a Texas car so the paint has lots of clear coat peel and chips etc.

Remember guys friends don't let friends Plasti Dip. Now I have to deal with the previous owners bad taste. It's not much fun peeling this crap off.

Upon initial inspection in my shop we discovered the starter and battery were toast. I bought a new battery and received a free starter from a good friend. The water outlet was not properly connected and the sensors were smashed, and one bolt was sheared off and stuck rusted in it. There were also a few cut wires that I will need to fix, the fuse boxes had the wrong fuses in them, and the intercooler piping wasn't connected.

Ordered replacement sensors, gasket, and the ATS knock sensor conversion.

Here's how everything looks now. Fuse boxes were all fixed to have the correct fuses in them. Just need to get a couple wires soldered back together and figure out whats up with the dizzy plug that doesn't seem to connect right under the fuse box and install my knock sensor conversion. The car at least cranks now I made sure the starter was good.

It ended up having the correct igniter but the wrong ICM so I got that swapped. It also had the wrong distributor cap and wires so I got those changed out along with new NGK plugs. Since the intercooler wasn't connected it was a struggle to get started but got it to idle OK. Now that I know it runs I have ordered the following since the intercooler is some eBay crap and the piping is missing as well as there being no exhaust system:

Berk exhaust
Berk downpipe
ATS Racing intercooler kit

will post more pictures later once it all arrives and I get it all mounted. MR2LiveCrew05-29-2016, 12:08 AMSince the last post I have been doing extensive troubleshooting to figure out my no start issues. After the one time of idling above it never did again. Well today I finally found the real culprit of this mess.

Since I bought someone else project I have been finding all kinds of fun stuff as you can. So the culprit here is a hack job of wiring to the air flow meter. As soon as I unplugged the air flow meter the car fired right up and idled good. So next on the list is to completely rewire this plug.

In other news last week I got my ATS Racing intercooler kit and got that all installed and mounted.

Berk Technology called me on Thursday to let me know that they were shipping out my exhaust system and downpipe. Should be here late next week i'll try and get video posted of how it sounds after I get it installed. KingDra307-31-2016, 03:04 AMGood luck I just picked up a shell hope to build soon MR2LiveCrew04-22-2018, 11:02 PMMore to come. I have moved and had a kid so a lot got put on the back burner until now. The car is going in for paint and body work soon. I have picked Laser Blue (Lotus color) to be painted. Engine has been pulled and I'm going with a 2GRFE. Bought the kouki lights and center garnish bought a differnt spoiler to replace the 3 piece, and a carbon fiber lip and front splitter. I'll have more pics and more update soon. koth44204-23-2018, 07:17 AMMm. 2GR swaps are awesome. Keep us posted as you can!
