I've been dabbling with LED's for about a year now attempting to light up the race/showcar for the night-time car shows we have here in South Florida 12/365.

My idea is to open up the back side pull w my Dremel, pull out the weak OEM strip of leds and replace with 2 rows of the super bright 50/50 LED's in red. It would, of course be much brighter and since there is hardly no wattage loading there is no impact to the fuses or wiring.

I'll keep you posted, thanks for inquiring.

tim, whatever youre up to, id like a piece of that write up! i was looking into having a friend of mine replace the leds. mr2tim05-09-2016, 08:04 AMThe conversion was a huge success. In fact, the use of the new 5050 LEDS instead of the OEM "light bulbs" makes the light bar in the 1989 wing massively visible in the daylight where the OEM was barely visible.

The LED suppliers are now offering a double string type of 5050 in which 2 strings are manufactured and packaged side by side which results in a huge amount of brightness. For me this product was the perfect choice to offer increased visibility when braking. (I live in the retirement capital of America, there are many elderly drivers here drive with diminished sight, hearing etc. etc.)

This is a picture from the bench when I tested the 1st prototype. It has now been in use for 6 months with no issues. These LED's are rated IP67 and are water proof so I am not anticipating any issues related to water getting into the assembly.

Will prefer PM inquires for access to the write-up and further pictures.

Best regards from South Florida,

Tim
