View Full Version : 1/4 mile test runs for 2014

hmong33709-14-2014, 09:32 PMWell just got back from the track. Goal for this year was to try for 12.9's. Didn't quite make it by a hair.

Here is how I ran last year.
http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=471578

This year, I went with 17psi on the same setup as last year.

91 na t-top chassis
gen3 w/ ct20b 17-18psi
93+ e153
cone filter
Downpipe
HKS Hi-power exhaust
CoolingMist stage1 water/meth injection
Yokohama ES100 that I had laying around with good meat (255/40r17). 280 UTQG rating.

Best I could do was 13.0 @ 105mph with a 1.8 60'.

For the life of me, I just could not crack 12.9's. Tried and tried and tried. I ran low 13's all day. My boost keeps tapering though. Time to get rid of the cheap MBC I'm using in favor of the Blitz ebc I was given.

I also tried using LP Engineering's Gen3 FCD for the first time today. I can confirm now that it can go in the trash can. I was told by l0chow that it was set to cut fuel for 20.5psi. NOPE. The device didn't even work. Was still cutting fuel at 18psi as I was trying to dial my boost to 20psi in search of my 12.9.

Oh well, good enough I guess.

My highest MPH of the day was 106. I honestly thought it would've been higher.

Ran all low 13's all day.

Here are some vids.

90% of the cars there were trailered in. Happy to keep confident in that my old school 90's scrap is still being street driven to and from the track. Throwing down in style too. It ran hard and strong all day. A ton of burn outs and launch after launch to redline banging gears.

Good times. Cheers. drake2209-15-2014, 02:09 AMOne thing to consider ... the boost tapering could be wastegate-related. To be honest, my vote is on the wastegate actuator over the mbc.

Good job on the 13.0 quarter mile time btw. My setup is similar to yours, and now I know what my goal is ;) hmong33709-15-2014, 10:01 AMNot really sure what it could be in terms of the boost falling. It falls to about 14psi by redline. I also am using a cheap $20 ebc I got from NXS. The one thing I'm dreading is possibly a mystery leak somewhere under pressure. Time to check hoses. I seriously hope it isn't the actuator diaphragm. That would suck. drake2209-15-2014, 01:21 PMAs far as I understand it, since the wastegate actuator is designed to hold about 8 psi to 13 psi or so, it can have a hard time holding higher than that, so it can cause it to taper off at high rpm. I think that I am seeing something similar to that. I think Garage CRW sells an aftermarket actuator that holds about 15 psi on spring pressure, and so should be able to hold much higher pressure to redline. hmong33709-15-2014, 02:34 PMAs far as I understand it, since the wastegate actuator is designed to hold about 8 psi to 13 psi or so, it can have a hard time holding higher than that, so it can cause it to taper off at high rpm. Yes, quite possible! There's only so much an 8 pound spring can do. I wonder how some guys are getting away with keeping their boost up though... mr2gen3199309-15-2014, 04:28 PMI wonder i have two gen 3 swaps. One with all the bolt ons it holds 17.5 psi all the way to redline. Than i have another with intercooler and intake it boosts to 13.5 psi or so but by redline it goes down to 12-11. Its strage but than im swapping out the turbo to a td06 20g. Hoping for high 11's to mid 12's. hmong33709-15-2014, 05:43 PMI wonder i have two gen 3 swaps. What boost controller are you using?

I seriously need a fresh set of tires though. Probably will go for Dunlop ZII tires.

Like yourself, also have a small style turbo to go on. I have this sitting in my stash of parts I should be installing. I'm holding back on installing because I don't want to do another clutch without burning up what I have at the moment. The clutch I'm using now is only rated for ct20b power. So I'm just gonna high boost the ct20b till that clutch burns out. But I definitely will throw the kit on when it goes for a clutch replacement.

Yea, old school. T3/t4 t04e 50 trim with a .63 a/r. Should get me to around 300-320 whp @ around 16-17psi on 94oct. It will easily get me into the 12's but I wanna do 12's on the ct20b first. campos10-28-2014, 08:13 PMi am willing to ship my actuator(adjustabable/rebuildable) up to canada. it will work on ct26/ct20b

i can drop a 15lb wastegate spring.. i am positive this is your boost issue...
