View Full Version : Need help choosing a Stand-alone EMS or Piggyback on 5sfe

Cam'dry9707-30-2014, 11:23 AMI have a 97 Camry 5sfe with 294 webcams, 4-1 header, and Injen intake. I am considering raising the compression through head work or pistons when it is time to rebuild. I am also thinking about doing a small shot of nitrous oxide. I am happy with all of my mods so far but I want to squeeze every bit of power out I can and also plan for possible mods in the future. I read over some of the threads and I do not know much about motors much less aftermarket computer systems. I wouldn't even have got this far with out the help of mrturrari. Could someone please point me in the right direction on what product to go with. Thank you for everyones time and answers. caveman875207-30-2014, 11:49 AMHow the webcams doing for u can u run them without a stand alone I'm also trying to beef up my got 5sfe too got the header and exhaust. But the intake I want they dont make anymore toms super ram intake 2 I think.but there not much mods for this eng aftermarket wise So it hard my goal is for this na is 350hp hopefully I can get there

You don't have to have a standalone I am just trying to get all of the power out of what I have and plan for future mods. 350hp NA is going to be very hard to attain and VERY expensive. Going for 200hp is more feasible, but still tricky. I would go turbo and either way, shooting for 350hp, the motor isn't going to last long. Forged internals (rods pistons etc) are a must and they will most likely need to be custom made. caveman875207-30-2014, 01:19 PMThat stuck cause I already got to much in to this eng setup.I really dont want a eng. swap But if I have to I will and if I do going with the 5sgte. So how much throttle response did you yet from the webcams and how much horespower you think you gain from it

Does the 5sfe push close to 200. 165 stock ant it

Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk Cam'dry9708-01-2014, 04:27 PM5sfe make 130-136 bhp and 145-150 lb ft stock. Realize this is on a brand new motor. Most likely over time and miles an engine is going to lose power. Below is a link to the highest record NA hp for a 5sfe . . . 147 hp to the wheels and 153 lb ft with an intake, 294 cams (same as mine), port and polished head/ 5 angle valve job, milled head, 4-2-1 header (same as mine), straight pipe exhaust, after market coil and wires, MSD 6A, and 65 mm throttle body. Im sure this was done in a manual. This is a big gain over stock, around 115whp and 127lb ft with just an intake. All of this work especially cams, p&p, valve job, and header/exhaust add up quickly as in thousands. Especially if the installation is through some one else.

http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/mr2records/dyno/jsnodgrass.jpg HIGHEST RECORD NA HP filonin_208-03-2014, 12:28 AM5sfe just isn't the way to go if you want to go fast in as big and heavy a chassis as the Camry. The 5sfe would be pretty good in a mki mr2 though. Building 5sgte from your 5sfe would get your 350hp goal quite easily. You'd have to mostly start over though you do have the correct engine block already. caveman875208-03-2014, 02:09 PMI wasent going to make the 4fse into a 5sgte was just going to buy a new eng. And do the swap

Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk filonin_208-03-2014, 03:52 PMWell, then you'll have to buy that too at additional cost. Either way, your 5sfe will never get to 200hp, let alone 350. Maybe see if you can put the BEAMS head on the 5s block. I don't know if that can work, but you'd have a much better head. caveman875208-03-2014, 03:54 PMIll just put a v12 in the back. problem solved

That with two 3sgte's would be suicidal fast. Powered by vBulletin® Version 4.2.5 Copyright © 2026 vBulletin Solutions Inc. All rights reserved.
